The component

What it is, and why it is in the system

Kapsel Filtered Water Bottle is a drinking bottle with a built-in mechanical filter. You fill it with clear fresh water from a tap, lake, river or spring and drink through the mouthpiece. The water is filtered on its way to the mouthpiece. Water is the hardest thing to replace. The filtered water bottle is container and filter in one: you fill it once, take it with you and drink, with nothing to set up.

Scenarios

When you will need it

Use it when you need to carry water with you and want to filter it straight away, without extra containers or filters.

On trips and travel: Fill it from a tap, lake or stream on a hike, the commute or at the cabin. The filter adds an extra layer of protection away from your usual drinking water, as long as the water is clear and not chemically contaminated.
Disruption at home: If the tap water temporarily can't be used, fill the bottle with clear water you've collected or fetched from a source you trust. Boil the water as well when the risk is higher.
In the car, at work and at the cabin: If you keep a Kapsel system in several places, put a filtered water bottle in each one. Then there's a way to filter water wherever you are.
Several people at home: The bottle is personal, one per person. The water filter straw is the household's shared reserve.

The system

Where it sits in the system

Kapsel Filtered Water Bottle sits in the Personal & Shelter capsule, one per person. Together with the water filter straw in Water & Health, it gives you two ways to filter clear fresh water when your usual drinking water isn't working.

How to use it

Try the bottle once when things are calm, so you know how it flows and tastes before you need it.

Before first use: fill the bottle with clean water, screw on the lid and flush at least 500 ml through the filter. Pour away that first water.
Fill it with clear fresh water from a tap, lake, river or spring. Never seawater, chemically contaminated water or water that smells strongly or looks odd.
Close the lid properly and drink through the mouthpiece. Keep the mouthpiece clean and don't touch it with dirty hands.
When you're done: empty the bottle, blow out the mouthpiece and let the bottle and filter dry with the lid off.
Don't let a wet filter freeze. If it has frozen, replace it.
Replace the filter cartridge when its capacity is reached, when the flow becomes very low despite flushing, or when the taste, smell or colour changes. Keep using the bottle and lid with a new cartridge.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why is Kapsel Filtered Water Bottle included?

Water is the hardest thing to replace when the usual supply stops working. The bottle is container and filter in one, so you fill it, take it with you and drink clear fresh water with nothing to set up.

How do I use it?

Before first use, flush at least 500 ml of clean water through the filter and pour it away. Then fill it with clear fresh water from a tap, lake, river or spring, close the lid and drink through the mouthpiece. Never seawater or chemically contaminated water.

What does the filter do, and how much can it handle?

A hollow-fibre membrane and activated carbon filter mechanically down to approx. 0.1 μm. This reduces bacteria and particles and gives the water a better taste. The bottle holds approx. 770 ml and the filter handles up to 2,000 litres, depending on how clean the water is to begin with.

Which capsule does it belong to?

It sits in the Personal & Shelter capsule, one per person. The water filter straw is in the Water & Health capsule.
