The component

What it is, and why it is in the system

This is an emergency sleeping bag made of thin PE plastic, for one person. It keeps the warm air close to your body and keeps the wind out. Used properly, it reduces heat loss when you're cold, wet, in shock or need to lie still for a long time. When everyday life is disrupted, people rarely get cold deep in the forest. They get cold in stairwells, in cars, in sports halls or on the way between home and an assembly point. If you're wet, tired or injured, your body loses heat faster. With an emergency sleeping bag you can quickly cover someone, keep the warmth in and show clearly that the person needs extra care. It buys you time until you reach a better place or get help.

Scenarios

When you will need it

Use the emergency sleeping bag when someone is cold, wet, in shock or needs to lie still somewhere cold for more than a short while. It helps in homes without heating, in broken-down cars, when you have to leave home and as an extra layer over or under something else. Get it out early when someone needs to be kept warm and stable until things are under control.
  • A winter power cut: The heating is off and the flat is cooling down. You put whoever is coldest in the emergency sleeping bag on the sofa, with an ordinary blanket on top, and give them a hot drink.
  • The car breaks down on a dark road: The car won't start and you're waiting for help. You move everyone to the passenger side, away from traffic, wrap each person in an emergency sleeping bag and put jackets on top.
  • When you have to leave home: You walk in bad weather and someone is chilled through when you reach the assembly point or shelter. You put them in the emergency sleeping bag and let them sit on their rucksack, so the cold from the ground doesn't get in.
  • First aid: Someone is injured and you're waiting for an ambulance. You've already called 112. You put the person in the emergency sleeping bag so the warmth stays in, and keep talking to them and checking their breathing and consciousness.
  • Backup at the cabin or campsite: You need an extra layer inside your sleeping bag or under a thin mattress. The emergency sleeping bag keeps the heat close to your body.

The system

Where it sits in the system

The emergency sleeping bag sits in the Personal & Shelter capsule. It's part of how you stay warm and stable when something drags on. It works together with clothing, the microfibre towel and the rest of the capsule. First you get out of the wind and rain. Then you dry off. Then you wrap up. The emergency sleeping bag is the thin last layer that keeps your body heat in instead of letting it escape.

The product

Details

How to use it

The emergency sleeping bag is simple on purpose. You open the packaging, unfold the bag and let whoever needs to stay warm get inside. The bag keeps the warm air close to the body. The outside protects against wind and splashes. In your Kapsel it sits in the Personal & Shelter capsule, always packed flat and always in the same place.
  • Open the packaging carefully so the bag doesn't tear.
  • Unfold the emergency sleeping bag fully.
  • Cover from the shoulders down, and tuck the edges under the body if you can.
  • Cover the head and neck. If you have a hood, hat or scarf, put it on top.
  • Keep an eye on the person. Add clothes or another blanket if needed.

What is included

  • 1 × Kapsel Emergency Sleeping Bag in protective packaging.
Plan for one emergency sleeping bag per person. Then everyone can be wrapped up separately, even if you're in different rooms, different cars or different places.
