The component

What it is, and why it is in the system

Kapsel Menstrual Cup is a reusable menstrual cup made of medical-grade silicone. It's inserted into the vagina and collects menstrual blood. Then you remove it, empty it, rinse it and reinsert it. Used correctly, it protects for several hours at a time, and with proper cleaning and care you can use it for many cycles. When everyday life is disrupted, you can't count on your usual pads or tampons being available in the right size or brand. Big packs also take up space. The menstrual cup is included because it can stay in for a long time, creates little waste and stays in the bag all year. One small cup lasts many cycles if you have clean water to wash it with. That makes planning easier for anyone who has periods.

Scenarios

When you will need it

Use the menstrual cup as your usual period protection if you like cups. Or keep it as a backup in the system bag, for travel, power cuts and if you have to leave home, when it's uncertain whether pads and tampons will be available.
  • Everyday life at home, when you want low-waste period protection that can stay in for a long time.
  • Travel, the cabin and work trips, when you want small period protection instead of carrying lots of pads or tampons.
  • Power cuts, public transport strikes or snowstorms, when shops may close early or have empty shelves.
  • When you have to leave home and stay with friends, at a hotel or at an assembly point, where you don't know what period products will be available.

The system

Where it sits in the system

The menstrual cup sits in the Water & Health capsule, one per system bag, alongside the First Aid Kit, Kapsel Paper Soap and the water filter straw. That way reusable period protection is in the same place every time. You need to store fewer disposable products, and the bag stays ready for many months without topping up.

Details

How to use it

Get to know the menstrual cup during an ordinary period, before you need it. Always read the full instructions in the packaging and at kapselsystem.com. If you're unsure whether a menstrual cup suits you, ask a healthcare professional.
  • Boil the cup in clean water for 5 to 10 minutes before first use and let it cool.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly. Fold the cup as the instructions show, insert it and check that it has unfolded.
  • The cup can stay in for several hours, usually 4 to 8 hours and never more than 8 to 12 hours at a time. Empty it more often if you bleed heavily.
  • Wash your hands when you're going to empty it. Remove the cup gently, empty it into the toilet, rinse with clean water and, if needed, mild unscented soap, and reinsert it.
  • Clean the cup thoroughly after each period. Boil it again for 5 to 10 minutes, let it dry and store it in a breathable pouch, not a sealed plastic container.

What is included

  • One reusable silicone menstrual cup.
  • Printed instructions with safety information, warnings and sizing.
  • Full manual, EU declaration of conformity and more information at kapselsystem.com/manuals.
There's one menstrual cup per system bag. If more people in the household have periods, add one cup per person. Some people like to have two cups, as a backup or because a different size suits them better on some days. Check the size on the packaging and follow the manufacturer's advice on sizing.
